Madhyapur Thimi has a broader road now

The expansion of the Arniko Highway through Madhyapur Thimi (the Tinkune-Suryabinayak section) has been completed.
After all works were accomplished as per the agreement between the governments of Nepal and Japan regarding the roadway expansion, the Tinkune-Bhaktapur Six-Lane Roadway Construction Project today took journalists on an inspection of the roadway from Tinkune to Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur and informed the completion of the expansion works at a media meet at Madhyapur Thimi on Monday.
Begun on December 1, 2008, the expansion was accomplished within 30 months as per the agreement, the Project claimed.
The 9.1 kilometres long roadway was completed at a cost of some Rs. 2 billion received as grant assistance from the government of Japan, said Project Chief Saroj Pradhan.
Among the six lanes, four lanes were constructed with the Japanese assistance. Nepal government is to stretch two-lane service track on either side of the roadway. Rs. 180 million out of Rs 400 million was spent for the two-lane service track and removal of pipes and poles, added Project Chief Pradhan.
Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is to inaugurate the roadway on Tuesday. After the first phase of roadway expansion was complete, Japanese government had transfered the Tinkune-Jadibuti section of the Highway over to Nepal governmenton September 21, 2009. – RSS
