Shree Gopal Prajapati to be felicitated

The Civil society of Madhyapur Thimi is planning to felicitate well-known and senior musician, music & dance guru Shree Gopal Prajapati. A felicitation committee has been formed with 101 different organizations from Thimi with Madan Sundar Shrestha as the coordinator. The committee will be felicitating Mr. Prajapati on 4th of March in Balkumari, Thimi.

The felicitation program will include musical rally from Balkumari, Thimi to the resident of Shree Gopal Prajapati to receive him for felicitation. The program will also feature launching of his biography, launching of a commemorative coin as well as the performance of music and dances from his students. Vice-president of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun will honor the program as the chief guest.

Shree Gopal Prajapati is a living legend of Madhyapur Thimi with decades of contribution to preserving and promoting traditional music and dances. He is a teacher of dozens of traditional dances such as Bhailaa Pyakhan (Bhairab Dance), Mahakali, Astamatrika, Bhasmasur, Lakhe and Jyapu Jyapuni. He is also a teacher of various drums including Dhimay, Mridanga, Dapha Khin and Dagaa Khin/Dhah. At his 87 years, Mr. Prajapati has been continuously dedicating his time and effort in teaching the dance and music to the new generation and safe-guarding the traditional heritage.
